Graham has been involved in a wide range of research programmes applying basic chemical, biochemical and immunological techniques to the study of human biology Research interests have focused on investigations of the effects of antioxidant supplements on age related attenuation of the stress protein response as well as changes in this response in human breast cancer. Projects involving Blackmores Aust as industry partner have focused on the role of antioxidants in the mitigation of skin damage after UV exposure. Recently we have begun investigating useful bioactivities of native Australian plants used traditionally by Aborigines in wound healing.

Research interests

  • Human hair and erythrocyte membrane proteins.
  • Stress proteins in human ageing.
  • Bioremediation of depleted agricultural and pastoral land.
  • Science education for students of the complementary therapies

Projects are available in the following areas for honours and higher degree study

1. Human and animal erythrocyte shape transitions and membrane proteins in health and disease;
2. Human and animal hair proteins;
3. Evidence-based comparisons of orthodox and complementary therapies;
4. Stress proteins in human breast cancer
5. Age related attenuation of the human stress protein response;
6. Free radical insult and the effects of antioxidants;
7. Bioactive components from native Australian traditional medicinal plants.
