Background
Darryl has worked in both the intensive and extensive segments of the Australian beef industry and operates a family sheep and cattle enterprise with his wife. He managed on-farm research programs for commercial cooperators, including the world’s largest beef producing companies while living in northern Australia. He holds research contracts with many commercial organizations and industry bodies such as Meat and Livestock Australia. He also has involvement in international development research in South-East Asia and has previously worked in the Middle East related to the live export of sheep and cattle.
Additional role with university's Rural Properties
In addition to teaching and research, Darryl manages the university's Rural Properties. The properties total 12,000 acres supporting 2000 cattle, 7000 sheep, 5 poultry sheds, 2000 acres dryland cropping, agronomy precinct and a 2000-head capacity beef cattle feedlot. The properties support a wide range of research, teaching and community engagement activities essential for the university's core business.
