Dr Dorothea Cogill-Koez joined the Linguistics staff full-time this year, coming from a background in ESL (including, in particular, working with Dr Helen Fraser on the course "Teaching Pronunciation") . Her particular interest is in the structure and nature of mental representations used in communication. This includes the traditional subject matter of linguistics, but also extends to iconic gesture and pointing.
Areas for postgraduate supervision include evolution of language, cognitive aspects of signed languages, and gesture. Teaching responsibilities this year include Ling 101, Ling 353/453 (The English Language) and Ling 452 (Intercultural Communication).
