I trained as a soil chemist at the University of Queensland before taking up an academic position at the University of New England in 2003. As a member of the Centre for Sustainable Farming Systems I have increasingly been drawn into mixed farming systems research, culminating in a leadership role within the Grain and Graze research program. The use of Precision Agricultural tools to assess and monitor production and environmental outputs mixed farming systems is challenging. Tools that assess soil water and salt, plant vigour, emergence and yield, and stock movement and weight gain require integration at both paddock and farm scale to be considered useful in economic and production decision making. Within PARG this is currently being attempted at farm scale (150 ha) to compare three mixed farming systems. Research interests include agronomic and soil applications of Precision Agricultural tools alongside soil chemistry and plant nutrition research interests.
