Claire has been at the University of New England since 2006. Firstly with the School of Education, lecturing in health, physical education and sports studies, then in 2010 Claire was appointed coordinator of the new Sports Studies degree in the School of Science and Technology. Prior to her appointments at UNE Claire has also held full time lecturing positions in Sports Studies and Physical Education at the University of Bath and the University of Brunel in the United Kingdom.

Research interests

Claire's research interests include the socio-cultural and historical development of sport and physical education, with a focus on the aquatic histories of Britain, Australasia and the Pacific, as well as gender issues within sport. Her doctoral thesis supervised by Professor Grant Jarvie at the University of Stirling was entitled ‘An Urban Historical Perspective: Swimming a Recreational and Competitive Pursuit, 1840 to 1914'.
