Biography

Dr. Sharl Marimuthu holds the position of Senior Lecturer in the School of Law at the University of New England in Armidale, New South Wales. In addition to that, she is the Chief Editor of the International Journal of Regional, Rural, and Remote (RRR) Law and Policy. Her primary area of interest is in food security and natural resource governance.

Her research focuses specifically on ways to strengthen the legal framework and governance for the sustainable use of natural resources and production of food. Her dissertation for her doctorate, which she completed at Monash University, focused on the regulations that govern medicinal products advertising. This included the interaction between food and medicine, functional foods, labelling, and health claims. Her study has evolved to include climate-resilient crops such as insects for food and feed, and she is examining the influence that food production has on biodiversity as well as human rights perspective on SDGs. Currently, Dr. Marimuthu supervises a number of PhD candidates in the fields of food regulation and biodiversity conservation.
