Research Interests

My major research interests are in the application of economic models of agricultural industries to predict the impacts of changes in production technologies, advertising programs, and government policies; the nature of the technology adoption process and how adoption can be increased and speeded up; and the links between the competitive structure of markets and the distribution of the benefits from effective technological change. I have an ongoing interest in price formation processes in food and fibre markets and in the changing nature of the relationships between farm and retail prices.

Current projects include applying formal economic modelling procedures to estimating the economic outcomes of CRC research programs, and the likely future impacts of new investments; leading ACIAR R&D projects in South Africa in integrating poor rural communities into commercial markets; and advising government and industry on research evaluation principles and practice.
