Biography

Dr Glenn Porter is an Associate Professor in Criminology at the University of New England. He is an experienced forensic criminology practitioner and previously worked with the Australian Federal Police as a forensic imaging specialist. A/Prof Porter was the founding academic and Head of the Forensic Science degree at the University of Western Sydney and has served as Vice President of the Australian Academy of Forensic Sciences. He is an experienced expert witness and his evidence has been heard or presented in various courts and jurisdictions including; the District and Supreme Courts of NSW, Coroners Court of NSW, NSW Court of Criminal Appeal (Sydney), High Court of Australia (Canberra) and the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) (Geneva). A/Prof Porter’s forensic specialisations include forensic imaging, images as forensic evidence, crime scene investigation and shoe mark evidence.

Research Interests

A/Prof Porter’s research interests are in forensic criminology areas such as; forensic photography and imaging, optical enhancement of evidence, images as forensic evidence, CCTV evidence, forensic science, crime scene documentation and processes. Other research interests include policing practices and professionalisation, visual culture in the criminal justice, media portrayal of crime, the CSI Effect, and the science of art.
