Student Memberships

Sport UNE currently offers excellent membership discounts to students attending the University of New England.  From as little as $50 (3 month Bronze membership), UNE students can enjoy the benefits of Sport UNE's extensive facilities and programs, and can upgrade their membership to Silver, Gold, Platinum, or Platinum Plus at any time throughout the year (conditions apply).

Sports Scholarships

Sports Scholarships

Sport UNE  offers a number of sporting scholarships to full-time students who are enrolled in a course of at least two years' duration at the University of New England.  Applicants should have an outstanding ability in a particular sport, and a desire to represent the University in their chosen sport. Recipients will be expected to become an active member of the UNE sporting club for which the award has been granted.

At Sport UNE, we offer two levels of scholarship: Full Sports Scholarship, and Sports Development Scholarship.  The awarding of sporting scholarships are considered by the UNE Sports Scholarship Committee (comprising the Executive Director, President, and Senior Vice-President of Sport UNE), the chair of the UNE Academic Board (or nominee), and the Academic Registrar (or nominee).

Please note:  Scholarship applications open in October each year and close at the end of February the following year.

Clem Jones Sports Scholarship

Number: Up to 3

Value: Up to $3000 cash grant for one year and Silver Membership of Sport UNE

Selection is based on:

  • demonstrated outstanding ability in your chosen sport, with a high national ranking and representation at a national/international level
  • Sound academic ability/potential

Sport UNE Full Sporting Scholarship

Number: Up to 7

Value: $1200 cash grant for one year and Silver Membership of Sport UNE. The scholarship may be renewed in subsequent years dependent on performance

Selection is based on:

  • demonstrated outstanding ability in your chosen sport and representation at state/national championship level (in either age or open division)
  • Sound academic ability or potential

Sport UNE Development Scholarship

Number: Up to 10

Value: $500 cash grant for one year and Silver Membership of Sport UNE

Selection is based on:

  • demonstrated outstanding ability in your chosen sport and achievement of at least regional representation at a state championship level (in either age or open division)
  • sound academic ability/potential

Sport UNE Training Support Scholarship

Number: Up to 5

Value: $350 in membership/facility usage at Sport UNE

Selection is based on:

  • demonstrated outstanding ability in your chosen sport and achievement of at least regional representation at a state championship level (in age division)
  • sound academic ability/potential

Colleges' Rugby Scholarship

Number: 4 (2 from Robb College, 2 from St Albert's College)

Value: $1000 towards the payment of college fees plus free registration with the relevant football club

Eligibility:

  • open to students completing year 12 and gap year students who will live in either Robb or St Albert's Colleges the following year
  • recipients of the St Albert's Scholarship must live in St Albert's College and play for the St Albert's Rugby Club
  • recipients of the Robb Scholarship must live in Robb College and play for the Robb Rugby Club

Selection is based on:

  • Academic merit - as indicated by your performance in the HSC or equivalent
  • potential to contribute to college life
  • demonstrated ability to play rugby union at a high level of proficiency

Robb College Women's Sporting Scholarship

Number: 2

Value: $1000 towards the payment of college fees for one year

Eligibility:

  • open to female students completing year 12 and gap year students who will live in Robb College the following year
  • you must participate in at least one registered sport and four intercollegiate sporting competitions throughout the year

Selection is based on:

  • academic merit - as indicated by your performance in the HSC or equivalent
  • potential to contribute to college life
  • demonstrated ability to play sport at a high level
  • demonstrated involvement, performance, commitment and participation in the pursuit of sporting excellence either at school, regional, state or national level

Robb College Foundation Darren Ellis Fund Sporting Scholarship

Number: 2

Value: $3000 per year towards the payment of college fees for up to four years

Eligibility:

  • Open to students completing Year 12 and gap year students who will be attending UNE the following year
  • must be able to demonstrate ability and performance at a high level of sporting proficiency

Selection is based on:

  • academic merit as indicated by your performance during the HSC or equivalent
  • demonstrated ability and performance at a high level of sporting proficiency
  • involvement and leadership in school and community activities

    Sport UNE caters for the needs of a number of sporting clubs including indoor soccer, badminton, basketball, netball, soccer, rugby league, rugby union, squash, and more.  As a Sport UNE student member, you are entitled to participate in club activities and events, often at a reduced price.

    MB/PT Sports

    Drummond & Smith - MB/PT Winners 06

    The Mary Bagnall (female) and President's Trophy (male) competitions have been imbedded in intercollegiate sporting tradition for a number of years.  These competitions involve intercollegiate participation in a number of sports including badminton, tennis, netball, soccer, cricket, waterpolo, and more.  To get involved with this year's MB/PT competitions, please see your MB/PT rep, or phone our Sports Dleivery Team on (02) 6773 5181.

    Lawn Bowls - Intervarsity Team of the Year
    • Intervarsity Competition - As an incentive to encourage students to participate in Intervarsity Competition, Sport UNE subsidises those students who compete at Intervarsity events (conditions apply).  Sport UNE also organises a complete package that includes accommodation, some meals, transport, and team uniforms at cost price.

    Men's Soccer
    • Australian University Sport (North) - Since its establishment, AUS (North) has been developing a range of quality sporting competitions for the benefit of student athletes in Universities from Cairns to Coffs Harbour.  The AUS (North) sporting calendar offers a variety of sporting experiences.  A majority of these sporting events are qualifiers for entry into Australian University Games.

    Basketball
    • Australian University Sport - This umbrella organisation develops and fosters sport in all 53 Australian University members.  A wide variety of AUS sporting competitions are held each year across the nation, and the premier sporting event on the AUS calendar is the Australian University Games (AUG).  Qualification for these events is through Regional Championships and Games.

    • International University Sports Federation (FISU) - FISU is the International governing body for University sport.  More than 104 countries are members of FISU, which is the second-largest multi-sport organisation in the world, after the International Olympic Committee.

    St Albert's - Rugby 1st XV

    Sport UNE recognises the sporting achievements and contributions made by persons and clubs in their chosen sports each year.  The awards are presented at the annual Blues Awards Dinner.  The following is a list of the awards presented each year.

    • University Blue - The University Blue is awarded to members who have shown outstanding ability (normally when representing the University), and who have reached a standard comparable to that generally achieved by the best sports persons in other Australian Universities.

    • University Half Blue - The Half Blue shall be awarded to members who normally, when representing the University, have achieved a standard in their sport well above average for Australian Universities.

    • Sport UNE Club Honours - The Club Honours is awarded to members who have made an exceptional contribution to the organisation and administration of a Sports Association Club over a period of at least three academic years including the year of the nomination.

    • Sports Recognition - The Sports Recognition Award is presented to those members who have made an all-round contribution to UNE sport as either a participant or administrator.  It is expected that the nominee will have been actively involved with the Sports Association for a period of no less than two years.

    • Sportsperson of the Year - The Bill Hanlan Shield - The Sportsperson of the Year Award is presented to a student member of Sport UNE who, whilst displaying good sportsmanship, has reached a higher level of achievement in sport than all other student members of Sport UNE during the twelve months preceeding the award and whilst enrolled at the University.

    • Sports Administrator of the Year - The Sports Administrator of the Year is awarded to a member who has made a significant contribution to the running of a club or a specific major sporting event during the year.

    • McDonald's Club of the Year - The McDonald's Club of the Year Award is presented annually to a Sporting Club that has achieved the most accolades and results during the previous twelve months.

    • Olivia Moulineux Memorial Award - The Olivia Moulineux Memorial trophy recognises outstanding contribution to Mary Bagnall and President's Trophy sports by a student member of Sport UNE.

    New England Award
