This is a collaborative research partnership established between Zonta
and the SiMERR National Centre to undertake an evaluation of the e-girls
day, held 16
June, and long-term tracking of participants to monitor ICT-related study and
career choices. The aim is to determine how the girls’ future study and
career choices are influenced by participation in relevant ICT experiences. The
significance of this research is to provide relevant evaluation for those planning
future e-girls days and to provide information for those teachers and careers
advisors assisting girls, interested in ICT-related careers, to make study and
career choices.
An e-girls connect web-supported environment has been established to
support the participants before and after the e-girls day, and for
a subsequent eight
year period during their crucial years of secondary and tertiary study choices
as well as their initial career choices. The e-girls connect environment allows
the participants to share personal profiles with the other e-girls participants
via a secure password-protected system, to communicate in a bulletin board format
with peers and role models, and to complete the various research surveys.
The e-girls connect environment is password protected.
