Robyn Bartel completed her undergraduate BSc (Hons. First)/ LLB degree at the Australian National University in 1997. Her Honours thesis concerned remotely sensed lineaments and Tertiary Volcanism on the Great Divide near Goulburn, New South Wales. She received the University Medal in Geography in 1997. In 1998 she moved to the University of Melbourne and in 2003 was awarded her PhD for her thesis "On the Side of the Trees: The Regulation of Land Clearance in Australia". Her PhD came second in the Chancellor's Prize for Excellence. Robyn moved to UNE early in 2005 from Canberra, where she was a post-doctoral fellow at the Regulatory Institutions Network (RegNet) at the Australian National University.

Robyn is also a distance student - she completed a Graduate Certificate in Higher Education at ANU last year and is now converting it to a Masters, including a research project examining the translation of teacher training into teaching practice.

Research interests

Her research interests are in the areas of environmental law and policy, regulation and governance, regulatory theory, environmental change, and in exploring the human-landscape relationship. She is currently examining the implementation of new environmental legislation in New South Wales, Queensland and Western Australia.
