Master of Urban and Regional Planning with Honours
This is a thesis-based research degree, for people already qualified as planners.
Admission to the Masters is also open to people with an appropriate qualification in another field, after the completion of a preliminary coursework program. The preliminary program consists of the core units from the Graduate Diploma. If you are already qualified in planning you are not required to undertake the preliminary coursework program. .
Entry to the Masters is subject to satisfactory performance in the preliminary program (if any), and the availability of staff to supervise the proposed research topic.
The thesis represents a substantial piece of independent research (text length not to exceed 40,000 words).
You can study either full or part time; and as either an internal or distance student. You can change mode to suit your needs. The degree can completed in one year of full time study or by between two and three years of part time study, depending on preliminary requirements.
You will need to attend the University, or arrange other forms of personal (face to face) contact with the supervisor for a minimum period of five days in each 12 month period of candidature.
Within six months of commencement, or 12 months in the case of part-time students, you will also need to present a seminar on your proposed research
The course is HECS based. It is recognised for the purposes of gaining membership of the Planning Institute of Australia.
