EEO Data Survey Reminder
Tue 20 Feb 2007
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Colleagues
Over the past few days the Employment Equity & Diversity off (EE&D)
has been sending out EEO
data collection forms as part of a survey of staff who have not yet
supplied EEO information. If you have not yet supplied EEO
information, please take a few minutes to tick a box in answer to the
five quick questions.
What happens to the survey information?
Information gained from the survey is entered onto a confidential
screen on Concept and is then used in summary form to ascertain how
Equity groups fare in relation to various employment matters such as
employment basis, recruitment, promotion, base salary and gross
earnings. We need your name and preferably your staff number, to make
sure that data is entered against the correct person. The
confidential screen is only accessible to yourself and selected
staff, and the information provided cannot be used for any other
purpose than the University's statistical reporting requirements.
Why collect EEO data?
An accurate employment profile helps the University understand
whether Equity groups are being treated fairly. Internal reports as
well as statutory reports to the Office of Employment Equity and
Diversity include summary information on Equity groups. Summary
information is also included in the University's Annual Report.
This information allows us to ascertain, for example, whether women
as a group are as likely as men to be employed above base salary when
they begin employment with the University; whether Indigenous people
are as likely to be employed on a continuing basis; or whether people
whose first language is other than English are as likely to be
promoted.
Provision of information is voluntary, however, we would really
appreciate your help. To date, some 81% of staff have supplied EEO
information.
Forms have been sent out to all staff who have not yet provided
information. If you haven't already supplied this information and do
not receive a form, or if you have supplied information but find that
your circumstances have changed, please contact me and I will arrange
to send you another survey form.
If you do not wish to supply this information, take a moment to let
me know and you will not be contacted again.
We would appreciate return of the form by 23 February. If you have
any questions regarding the survey please contact me on ext 3242 and
I will be happy to discuss it further with you.
regards,
Lyn Tucker
