Research Grant Incentive Scheme 2003/04

(Faculty of The Sciences)

Currently targeting: ARC Linkage grants

The scheme will come into effect immediately. This means that applications for Round 2 of ARC Linkage Project grants (collaborative research projects between higher education researchers and industry -see http://www.arc.gov.au/grant_programs/linkage_projects.htm)

commencing in 2004, and which have an ARC closing date of 28 November 2003, are eligible for payments under the Scheme. The Scheme will also target the two ARC Linkage rounds in 2004 and will be reviewed after that. The Faculty target is to achieve 10 ARC Linkage Project applications for the November 2003 round and 20 applications each for the 2004 Linkage Project rounds.

The incentives will take the form of payments from the Faculty to APF accounts. In the case of applications involving more than one staff member, the payment will be shared among them according to the wishes of those staff members. A particular application will only once be eligible for an incentive payment.

In all cases it is assumed that the grant application is lodged through the UNE Research Grants Office and is forwarded by that Office to the funding body. In the case that a joint application is lodged through another institution, incentive payments to UNE staff are only available if a substantial portion of the ARC grant is paid into a UNE research account, eg. to fund a PhD student at UNE (check with Associate Dean (Research) for details).

Incentive payments are available as follows:

  • In the case of an application that does not survive the first or second round of culling, $1000.
  • In the case of an application that is successful, $1000 plus one per cent of the value of the grant, with the maximum payment being $2000.
  • In the case of an application that is successful and which has a postgraduate scholarship element sufficient to fund a full-time PhD student at UNE for three years, $1500 plus one per cent of the value of the grant, with the maximum payment being $2500.

Applications for these incentive payments should be lodged with the Associate Dean (Research) who will then make a recommendation to the Dean.
