Fluoro 2009 workshop
Use of optical spectroscopic and microscopic techniques in biological and biomedical research

The workshop will aim to provide training and practical experience in a range of optical spectroscopic techniques (including microscopy) used in the biological and biomedical sciences.
A strong emphasis will be placed on practical issues and methodologies.
The target audience will be graduate research students, young postdoctoral research fellows and recently appointed junior faculty members.

Early bird registration is open.
There are several scholarships available for students. The deadline for scholarship submission is the 10th of March 2009.
If you wish to apply to these scholarships, you will need to be member of- either the Australian Society for Biophysics (Membership for student is $20 per year or $50 for three years)
- or the Australian Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (Membership for students is $36 per year)
- or the ARC/NHMRC Fluorescence Network (FREE TO join)
You will then need to send a half page statement (if sending by email, please have your attachment in MSword, pdf or rtf format) justifying why you should get support, with a list of your publications (including conference abstracts). In addition, you will need to send a supporting letter from student supervisors outlining other support that the students may be receiving. Application for scholarship should be sent to:

The committee will rank the applicants on the basis of their merit and the applicants will be notified on the 19th of March 2009.
The successful applicants will also be required to supply a half page report back to ASB, ASBMB or FABLS for inclusion in their respective newsletters.
