The role of the First Year Advisor is to assist new students to identify their leaning needs and expectations and to introduce resources and strategies that will build on students’ academic skills to promote independent learning and success in tertiary study. First Year Advisors offer individual consultations, workshops and seminars, Peer Assisted Study Sessions and a range of discipline specific resources. They also work with students and academics within units, monitor student progress and, as the point of first contact for first year students, refer students to other university services.
