Science in the Bush 2012
The University of New England is proud to host 'Far Out Science' a program of Free science activities in Northern New South Wales 2012-2014 intended to demonstrate the astonishing variety and vitality of the science that happens in our part of the world.
SCIENCE IN THE BUSH is part of the program and is an event usually run for year 7-9 students, last year we added an extra day to cater for years 5 and 6 and thanks to an Inspiring Australia - Unlocking Australia's Potential Grant we are able to do this again!
It is a day of hands-on workshops, with students taking on experimental challenges and coming face-to-face with cutting edge research. Activities on offer will include things such as making slime and hot/cold packs in the chemistry lab, making lip balm and hand cream in pharmacy, monitoring blood pressure and heart rate in the sport science exercise labs, and archaeological, electronic and environmental and rural science activities.
The days kick off at 9:30am in Lazenby Hall at the University of New England campus in Armidale, and finish at 3:00pm.
Places are limited and will be given on a first registered basis! Also, places are limited to 30 students per school years 7-9 and 20 students per school years 5-6.
Through our Inspiring Australia Grant, we also have funding available to assist with travel costs for students attending from small, rural and low socioeconomic area schools. If you wish to be considered for this assistance please include a quote for your travel costs along with a paragraph or two outlining your eligibility and how the grant will help you and your students.
