TEACH-IN for PEACE     27th March 1pm

On 14th March, a Teach-In for Peace was held at UNE, reviving a tradition dating back to the Vietnam war protests of the 1970s, when campuses all over the world convened teach-ins so students and staff could pursue issues which were systematically being ignored and excluded from mainstream curricula. Co-convened by adult educator Dr Bob Boughton and Peace Studies lecturers Dr Rebecca Spence and Dr Bert Jenkins, it provided a range of informative speakers, discussion groups, and constructive comments from the floor. A decision was made to hold further Teach-Ins, on a range of topics.

The next Teach-In will be on Thursday 27th March, commencing at 1pm, outside the Dixon Library at UNE (or if raining in Room 105 of the Education building). Entitled "Options For Action", it will discuss the range of actions that can be used by the international community to prevent war and to deal with brutal, corrupt or dangerous regimes. Speakers include long-term activists Dr Bob Boughton and Marty Branagan, UNESA President Kryssy Loker, and activists from the Armidale No War Movement who will present a report on the Canberra "Convergence" action.

The format will also provide opportunities for us all to ask and get answers to the many questions the current situation raises; and to discuss ways we can individually and collectively advocate for alternatives to war in the Gulf.

Help build a culture of peace at UNE. Invite your fellow students and staff members to come along with you to this forum. Bring any readings, posters, or other material that you want to make available to others.
