School of Health and School of Rural Medicine
Introduction
The School of Health (SoH) is a multidisciplinary school with several health-related foci. These include nursing, counseling, social work, health management and gerontology (aged care) and complementary medicine. The school has a large umber of postgraduate research students largely in the fields of management of health services and counseling.
The School of Rural Medicine (SRM) is a new entity, established in 2007. Its core teaching focus to date has been on undergraduate medical training (in collaboration with University of Newcastle through the Joint Medical Program). The School also has an increasing number of doctoral students.
Core Areas of Research Interest
- Health workforce training & retention with an emphasis on patient-centered care.
- Improving health and well-being of rural and regional communities including indigenous communities.
- Developing sustainable partnerships within and across the health sector. These include local, regional, national and international partnerships.
