Below is a press release.
New Robb College Scholarship draws recipient from Tasmania.

Kate Nicholas from York Plains in Tasmania is the recipient of the inaugural Robb College Foundation?s Darren Ellis Fund Sporting Scholarship. Kate, a worthy recipient of the scholarship and like Darren Ellis, is an all-round achiever, excelling both academically and athletically. This will be Kate?s first year at UNE and she will be studying for her Bachelor Degree in Agricultural Business.

The scholarship was named after a past Robb college student, Darren Ellis. At the end of 1985, Darren had completed five years of university life at Robb College. On his final day at Robb College he left college and university to embark on his new life and career. The same day he died in a tragic car accident.

The Darren Ellis Fund (DEF) is in some small way an effort to remember a remarkable Robb College student and it is hoping that the DEF will be more than just a memory of Darren, we hope that the funds made available through DEF will help both individual students through scholarships/bursaries and help the college with funds for various activities such as sport, cultural activities etc.

Darren Ellis was a substantial contributor to sport and a range of extra-curricular activities within Robb College. His close friends knew him as a strong sportsman but it was not until his memorial service that we learned how he had excelled at sport at school (Trinity Grammar). Nor did we have any idea of his non-sporting achievements at Trinity Grammar. It really struck home to many of us that Darren was a significant all-round achiever, but in a relatively quiet and humble manner.
