The UNE community's voice
The establishment and operation of health and safety committees in the workplace is governed by the Occupational Health and Safety Act 1983 and the Occupational Health and Safety (Committee in Workplaces) Regulation 1984.

The OH & S Committee at UNE is the University community's main voice on occupational health and safety issues. The committee has appointed representation from University management, members elected by academic and general staff, and undergraduate and postgraduate representation nominated by the Armidale Student's Association (ASA) and the UNE Postgraduate Association (UNEPA) respectively.
The Committee's functions are:

to assist in the development of an appropriate system for recording accidents and hazardous situations;
to assist in the development of a safe workplace environment and safe systems of work;
to assist in the development of Occupational Health and Safety Policy;
to monitor the measures taken to ensure the proper use, maintenance and replacement of equipment; and
to make appropriate recommendations to the University management to ensure the health and safety of persons at the place of work.

All members of the University community are encouraged to contact any member/s of the committee with concerns relating to occupational health and safety at UNE.
