First Aid
Policy
Nomination of a First-aid
Officer
There are two ways of applying to become the First Aid
Officer for a Division, noting that in both cases the following is
required:
- There is only one First Aid Officer allocated to each
Division, or in the case of a multi-story building, one to each
floor;
- The only fee paid by the Workplace Risk Management Unit is the
cost of completing the WorkCover approved First Aid Course;
- The Division Head must agree to pay the allocated First Aid
Officer an allowance of $363.00 per annum from their Division's
funds; and
- The two work days allocated for the obtaining of the
certificate from the WorkCover approved First Aid Course is solely
the responsibility of that Division.
To appoint a First Aid Officer who does not already hold a First
Aid Certificate the following is required:
- The Head of Division applies in writing to the Adminstration
Officer, Workplace Risk Management Unit to appoint a First Aid
Officer, agreeing to pay the allowance from their Division's
budget;
- The delegated person completes a WorkCover approved First Aid
Course ; and the fee is paid for by the Workplace Risk Management
Unit;
- On receipt of a copy of the First Aid Certificate the
Workplace Risk Management Unit refers the information to the
Employee Relations Department, Personnel Services, to enable the
First Aid Allowance to be paid from the funds of the Division;
and
- On renewal of the Certificate every three years the fee is
paid by the Workplace Risk Management Unit.
To appoint a First Aid Officer who already holds a current First
Aid Certificate the following is required:
- The Head of Division applies in writing to the Administration
Officer, Workplace Risk Management Unit to appoint a First
Aid Officer, agreeing to pay the allowance from their Division 's
budget and nominating a budget code for this allowance;
- On receipt of a copy of the First Aid Certificate the OHS Unit
refers the information to the Employee Relations Department to
enable the First Aid Allowance to be paid from the funds of the
Division;
- The First Aid Officer submits a claim to the Workplace Risk
Management Unit for reimbursement of the fee paid to the WorkCover
approved First Aid Course; and
- On renewal of the Certificate every three years the First Aid
Course fee is paid by the Workplace Risk Management Unit.
