Nonlinear partial differential equations and free boundary problems
We are looking for 2 highly motivated PhD students interested in working as part of a dynamic research team on nonlinear partial differential equations at the School of Science and Technology, University of New England (UNE).
These 3-year scholarships are linked to two Australian Research Council funded research projects on nonlinear partial differential equations and free boundary problems, which investigate nonlinear elliptic and parabolic equations arising from various applied fields, including biology, chemistry, ecology and physics. The projects involve collaborations with experts at the University of Sydney, National Taiwan University and other institutions internationally. One project is concerned with solutions of nonlinear elliptic equations with bubbles or layers, or having finite Morse index, and aims to classify these solutions. The other project focuses on nonlinear parabolic equations with free boundaries, and aims to better understand the regularity of the free boundary, and the long-time behaviour of the solutions. The successful candidates are expected to work on some of the topics in these projects.
Selection of applications will be based on merit. The applicants should have a sound knowledge of nonlinear partial differential equations, and proven ability to work creatively in mathematical research.
Each scholarship provides a living allowance of $26,682 per year for 3 years. Post-graduate training at UNE includes a dynamic academic team environment, international conference opportunities, professional development and networking.
