Linkage Projects scheme supports collaborative research and development projects between higher education organisations and other organisations, including industry, to enable the application of advanced knowledge to problems.

Proposals for funding under Linkage Projects must involve a Partner Organisation from outside the higher education sector.

The Partner Organisation/s must make a significant contribution in cash and in kind, to the project that is equal to, or greater than, the ARC funding.

The cash contribution must be AT LEAST 25% of what is requested from ARC. I.e. if $100,000 is being requested from ARC, the combined Partner Organisation/s cash contribution must be at least $25,000. The remaining 75% can be made up of in-kind support (see below for Partner Organisation examples).

(formerly R&D Tax Concession)

Companies incorporated in Australia and undertaking R&D are entitled to the incentive - so your Partner Organisation may be eligible to apply.

The R&D Tax Incentive is designed to encourage more companies to engage in research and development in Australia. The R&D Tax Incentive applies to research and development activities and expenditure in income years commencing on or after 1 July 2011.

The R&D Tax Incentive has two core components:

♦ Linkage Infrastructure, Equipment and Facilities (LIEF) ♦

The Linkage Infrastructure, Equipment and Facilities scheme provides funding for research infrastructure, equipment and facilities to eligible organisations.

The scheme enables higher education researchers to participate in cooperative initiatives so that expensive infrastructure, equipment and facilities can be shared between higher education organisations and also with industry.

The scheme also fosters collaboration through its support of the cooperative use of international or national research facilities.

Under the scheme, applicants may seek funding for:

  • infrastructure, equipment and facility purchases, construction and installation
  • major computing/data facilities, animal houses, herbaria and experimental farms
  • salaries directly associated with creating and installing infrastructure, equipment or facilities
  • consortium membership costs, in the case of Australia's participation in the use of significant international-scale or national research facilities
  • library and research information infrastructure.

For more information about the LIEF scheme and to download Funding Rules and Instructions to Applicants, please visit this section of the ARC website.
