CTS Scholarships Detailed Terms and Conditions

Detailed Terms and Conditions:

1. Student Eligibility

1.1 To be eligible to receive benefit under the CTS, a student must:

  • be enrolled in a Higher Degree by Research (HDR) on a full-time basis; and
  • be a domestic student, as defined in the Higher Education Sector Act; and
  • not have previously completed CTS training or training consistent with that described in the Commonwealth Guidelines, and
  • enrol in the Graduate Certificate of Commercialisation.
  • PhD students must be in their 2nd or 3rd year of candidature, Masters students must be in their 2nd year of candidature and be making above average progress.
  • Currently enrolled students will be required to vary their HDR enrolment to part-time, and complete the Grad Cert part-time and concurrently with their HDR degree.
  • Alternatively, students may enrol full-time in the Grad Cert within 6 months immediately after the submission of their thesis.

1.2 Students who, under any circumstances, are entitled to receive credit towards the CTS qualification from prior studies can only receive benefit under the CTS for the remaining period of study necessary to complete CTS training.

1.3 Students who fail to complete CTS training within 24 months from the date of commencement (plus any periods of suspension or leave approved by the University) are ineligible to receive further support under the CTS.

1.4 Students who have commenced CTS training prior to submitting their HDR thesis may be exempted from 1.1 (a) for a period of 6 months from the date of submission of their HDR thesis (subject to 1.3) only to allow them to complete CTS training.

2. Interruptions

2.1 Suspensions: Students may apply to the University for a suspension of their CTS training. The approval of suspensions will be at the discretion of the University.

2.2 Leave: Students may apply to the University for leave of absence during their CTS training. The approval of leave will be at the discretion of the University.

2.3 Transfer to another University: Students who transfer to another University may continue to receive CTS training from the new University and associated assistance only if their new University agrees to its continuation and subject to the new University having sufficient CTS grant amounts of its own available.

3. Termination

3.1 A University must terminate a student’s CTS training:

  • if the student ceases to meet the eligibility criteria specified in Section 1, other than during a period in which the CTS training has been suspended or during a period of leave under Sections 2.1 or 2.2; or
  • when the student completes the course of study; or
  • if the University determines that:

(i) the CTS training is not being carried out with competence and/or diligence* by the student or in accordance with the offer of CTS training (*failure in a unit will activate this clause); or
(ii) the student has committed serious misconduct, including, but not limited to the provision of false or misleading information.

3.2 If CTS training is terminated, it cannot be re-activated unless the termination occurred in error.

4. HDR Obligations

4.1 Undertaking CTS training will not be accepted as grounds for the extension of any other scholarship or award.

4.2 Students are expected to satisfactorily complete their Doctoral/Masters assessment and provide all reports required by the University including annual progress reports. If the University does not consider that progress is satisfactory the award will be terminated.
