Commercialisation Training Scheme Scholarships
Commercialisation Training Scheme
The Commonwealth Government provides funds to support research commercialisation training for a limited number of domestic HDR students.
The objective of the Commercialisation Training Scheme (CTS) is to provide high quality research commercialisation training for the next generation of Australian researchers as a means of equipping them with the skills, knowledge and experience necessary to bring research-based ideas, inventions and innovations to market.
Under the scheme, the training must result in the award of a Graduate Certificate. UNE has made arrangements through the Queensland University of Technology to allow UNE students to enrol in the Graduate Certificate in Research Commercialisation, developed by the Australian Technology Network (ATN) universities, and which meets the requirements of the scheme.
The Graduate Certificate is conducted online via the ATN e-Grad School at http://www.egradschool.edu.au.
Students may be granted special leave from their research degree to undertake the Graduate Certificate on a full-time or part-time basis. However, preference will be given to students who have already completed and submitted their thesis for examination and who are awaiting the outcome of the examination process.
1. Benefits Available:
UNE will support selected students by:
- Paying applicable student tuition fees. ($8000 for the 4 required units of the Graduate Certificate)
- Providing a stipend as follows:
- A full stipend at Australian Postgraduate Award (APA) rates for students who undertake the Graduate Certificate full time (with leave from their research degree).
- A part-time stipend at APA rates for students who undertake the Graduate, Certificate part-time with part-time concurrent enrolment in their research degree.
- The study period for the Graduate Certificate is 13 weeks full-time or part-time equivalent. The stipend is therefore equivalent to 0.25 of the annual full time APA stipend (currently $19,230 pa).
2. Student Eligibility
To be eligible to receive benefit under the CTS, a student must, at the time of application:
- be enrolled in a Higher Degree by Research (HDR) on a full-time basis (students will be required to vary their candidature to part-time in order to undertake the Grad Cert concurrently)
- be a domestic student (i.e. Australian citizen, Permanent Resident or New Zealand citizen); and
- be making above average progress within the HDR program,
- not have previously completed CTS training; and
- be enrolled in the Graduate Certificate of Commercialisation.
The mode of study may be either:
- undertake the Grad Cert on a part-time basis concurrently with the HDR program, (which will require a variation to candidature from F/T to P/T for two blocks of 13 weeks study of the Grad Cert program), or
- undertake the Grad Cert on a full time basis during the 6 months immediately following submission of the thesis for examination.
3. Selection Criteria
-
- Who can best demonstrate that the skills, knowledge and experience gained by completing the Graduate Certificate will bring research-based ideas, inventions and innovation to market; and
