Senior Executive Positions

The University of New England (UNE) has embarked on an exciting new path towards achieving the vision of a bold Strategic Plan to “achieve regional and global impact”. Part of this Plan, to focus activities in teaching and research through a reorganisation of the academic structure, has recently been implemented.

The next step is to enhance the leadership team at UNE through the appointment of three senior level executives to drive the renewal process. These positions will suit ambitious, career-minded executives, who wish to expand their career focus while also having the desire for a life-style change.

UNE was the first Australian University established outside a capital city. With a history extending back to the 1920s, it has a well-earned reputation as one of Australia’s great teaching, training and research universities. UNE has a student population of around 18,000, 14,000 of whom study at a distance and access UNE’s online resources via an optical fibre communications link between UNE and AARNet.

The Armidale and New England area is unique in Australia – a rural environment surrounded by easily accessible world heritage national parks. It would also be one of the few rural areas in Australia with an abundance of water. Two hours’ scenic drive from the mid north coast and one hours’ flight from Sydney, Armidale is recognised as a centre for culture and is well served for art, music, theatre and education, both public and private. For many it has had the attraction of a life-style change with affordable housing within the town itself or nearby on larger properties offering a farming environment for the family.

PRO VICE-CHANCELLOR (ACADEMIC)

Responsible to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, and as a member of the senior management team, the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic) will provide strategic leadership for the delivery of teaching and learning support services and student support and administration for the whole University.

The Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic) will have responsibility for the Teaching and Learning Plan and will coordinate the University’s academic quality assurance program. The position carries line management responsibility for the University’s Teaching and Learning Centre, Libraries, and student support and administrative services and other organisational units.

Working closely with the Vice-Chancellor, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Pro Vice-Chancellor/Deans and Heads of Schools, the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic) will provide support and advice to the Senior Management Team and the University on all matters relating to the portfolio.

The Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic) will also work closely with the Chief Development Officer in regard to marketing of the Universities academic programs and student recruitment.
