Message from the Vice-Chancellor about the
Heads of Schools Positions
The University of New England has set a new direction based on the Strategic Plan 2007-2010. The Plan sets a new bold vision and purpose, with the three defining themes of powerful performance, regional focus, and global reach. We aspire and intend to achieve regional and global impact.
An academic reorganisation has been implemented to help achieve the outcomes sought in the Plan, including aligning and focussing academic strengths, and allocating responsibilities and accountabilities at the most appropriate organisational level.
The four (4) Head of School positions that we are seeking to fill are critical in these changes and in subsequent developments at the University. We are interested to hear from experienced, motivated academic and professional leaders who will be committed to the development of the University through its students and staff. We are also keen to expand our links with the community, industry and practising professionals. The Heads of Schools play a vital role in these activities.
These positions also provide an opportunity for leaders who would like to develop their careers in an exciting regional environment away from the demands of life in the city. UNE is located in Armidale, NSW. This educational centre also boasts many cultural assets, especially music and art, and a friendly atmosphere.
UNE has a distinguished tradition of excellence in teaching, learning and research. Our staff members have a well-earned reputation for being among the nation’s best in university teaching. We are Australia’s oldest regional University and Australia’s most experienced distance educator.
UNE continues to build on its enviable reputation. UNE has held the maximum rating ("five stars") for "graduate satisfaction" in The Good Universities Guide for nine of the past 10 years – a record unmatched by any other Australian university. The Guide also consistently awards UNE a five-star rating for "teaching quality". Since their inauguration in 2006, UNE has been awarded 25 Citations for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning by the Australian Learning and Teaching Council (formerly the Carrick Institute).
I am pleased to invite your application to join UNE in one of the 4 Head of School roles according to your expertise and career aspirations or discipline background.
The Pro Vice-Chancellor and Dean for the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Professor Margaret Sedgley, and the Pro Vice-Chancellor and Dean for the Faculty of the Professions, Professor Victor Minichiello, welcome your enquires about the Head of School positions.
We look forward to learning about your possible contributions.
