These positions represent an exciting and innovative opportunity to assist in the establishment of a national and international reputation in rural medicine through the Joint Medical Program, in partnership with the University of Newcastle, and in setting the foundation for the newly established School of Rural Medicine. Last year the School of Rural Medicine had an initial intake of 60 students with a further intake of 60 students this year. The JMP is underpinned by problem based learning (PBL) with early clinical exposure and substantial community involvement. The medical curriculum, established by the University of Newcastle, is widely recognised. This exciting new joint project will involve working with rural practitioners to develop innovative models for the delivery of rural medical practice, and provide national and international leadership in the delivery of rural medical education and research. These part-time (0.2) positions will be at either Senior Lecturer or Lecturer level. The positions will be offered for an initial term of up to 2 years with the possibility of further appointment subject to funding and satisfactory performance.
