The Heritage Centre of the University of New England is the amalgam of archival and museological collections gathered over 50 years. These collections include the Museum of Education with its three historic school buildings, the Historical Resources Collection and the collections in the University of New England and Regional Archives. These collections present to visitors, the heritage of the Armidale Teachers College, Armidale College of Advanced Education New England University College, University of New England and the broader New England regional community.
The University Curator manages and develops policy and procedures for the collections under their direct control, and provides advice and assistance, in accordance with current legislation including the Heritage Act 1977 and its amendments, to the University and to other UNE museums and collections on request. A coordinating and liaison role is undertaken by the University Curator to ensure that University-wide heritage and museological issues are handled in a consistent and streamlined manner. This position focuses on heritage objects and preservation, supervises the University Art Manager and compliments the role of the University Archivist, who is responsible for paper, photographic and electronic records.
The Heritage Centre is located at the C. B. Newling Campus of the University and forms part of a cultural precinct that includes the New England Regional Art Museum, the New England Conservatorium of Music, the Aboriginal Cultural Centre and Keeping Place and Armidale Family History Research Centre.
While the position is full-time, consideration may be given to filling it on a less than full-time basis. The successful applicant will be required to successfully undertake a "Working with Children check" prior to being accepted for the position.
