Junior Research Fellow/Research Fellow in Statistical Genetics and Genomics (2 Year Fixed-term)

School of Environmental and Rural Science

The School of Environmental and Rural Science at UNE has an enviable reputation as a research based education group, teaching agricultural science and management in a rural environment.  The School has a long history of excellence in education through its degree in Rural Science. The staff of the School are presently actively involved in education and research programs of four "agricultural" CRCs and are also well recognised by industry research funding bodies.  This position is with the Animal Genetics group, which has a strong international reputation, is well funded and has a very active research portfolio, especially in the area of animal genomics.

High quality applications are sought for a Junior Research Fellow or Research Fellow in the area of Statistical Genetics and Genomics.  The successful candidate is expected to undertake whole genome analyses of data from livestock and to develop with the group novel methods in this area.  The appointee will also be expected to work on application of genomic data in animal breeding programs.  Some of the activities will have a more fundamental character and extension to analysis of human data is likely.

The position is for a fixed-term period of two years, with possibility of further appointment subject to funding and satisfactory performance.  Consideration may be given to filling the position on a less than full-time basis.

Applicants must have completed or be near to completion of a PhD degree in animal genetics, statistical genetic or a related area.  Experience with statistical analysis of quantitative genetic models as well as experience in computer programming is required.  Experience in analysis related to gene mapping and knowledge of agricultural breeding programs is desirable.

Salary

$48, 415 to $65,397 per annum (Junior Research Fellow); or
$68,796 to $81,535 per annum (Research Fellow)
plus 17% employer superannuation and optional salary packaging
