Clinical Dean - Joint Medical Program (JMP) - Tablelands Clinical School (Part-time, Fixed-term)

The University of New England and the University of Newcastle are seeking to appoint a Clinical Dean – JMP to head the Tablelands Clinical School based at Armidale. This position would be part-time (0.4 FTE) for a four year fixed-term appointment at either Level C or Level D within the School of Rural Medicine at UNE and based at the Armidale Rural Referral Hospital. There is the possibility of further appointment subject to satisfactory performance and the availability of funding. This position represents an exciting and innovative opportunity to assist in the establishment of a national and international reputation in rural medicine through the Joint Medical Program (JMP), a partnership between the Universities of Newcastle and New England, Hunter New England Area Health Service (HNEAHS) and Northern Sydney Central Coast Area Health Services (NSCCAHS). The JMP Clinical Schools will be based at Armidale (Tablelands), Newcastle (Hunter), Tamworth (Peel), Taree (Manning) and Gosford/Wyong (Central Coast). The responsibilities of this position include leadership of the Clinical School within the context of the University and Health Service management structures including allocation of work to staff and their performance appraisal in relation to the JMP, and include oversight of: the delivery of clinical placements opportunities to meet the needs of the JMP students across the public and private facilities within the footprint of the Clinical School; developing and maintaining relationships with Universities, Area Health Services, private institutions and private practitioners; and establishing close links to organisations associated with the delivery of pre-vocational and vocational medical education to maximise the opportunity for shared learning and efficiency in the use of resources. This position will liaise closely with the New England Division of General Practice in establishing JMP teaching/placements throughout Armidale and surrounding areas. In keeping with other JMP Clinical Schools, Armidale will plan involvement in the medical education continuum for both undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and will focus primarily on general medicine. The successful applicant will report to the Dean of Medicine – JMP in relation to JMP implementation and to the Head of School of Rural Medicine for other academic matters. For this position you must be registered to work as a Medical Practitioner, have a recognised medical specialist qualification, including General Practice, demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and demonstrate a solid understanding and commitment to rural medicine.
