Located at Kirby Research Station, the Senior Technical Officer/Property Manager will provide high quality leadership and management to technical and farm staff located at Kirby, Lauredale and Newholme research stations in the Armidale area and will provide for the continual development and maintenance of best practice in all aspects of the farm’s operations, for enhanced value to the University. Kirby Research Station (along with Lauredale and Newholme Research Stations) covers a total of 3080 ha and incorporates a sheep farming enterprise, facilitating a broad range of farm-based research and teaching projects associated with Armidale Research Stations owned by the University of New England. This position will: provide strategic planning and management advice as well as technical recommendations to the Rural Properties Management Committee; provide high level technical support and authoritative advice about the research station and its activities to staff, students and community representatives; and research and develop an awareness of “leading edge” technology in the delivery of new genetic interventions within the sheep industry. To undertake this role you must have demonstrated knowledge and expertise in farm management including sheep husbandry, pasture and grazing management, land and natural resource management and agricultural infrastructure management. You must also have: demonstrated ability to provide senior leadership; superior interpersonal and oral and written communication skills; and demonstrated knowledge and expertise of technical support activities associated with farm based research. The incumbent will normally be expected to live in the residence provided. The position is available until 31 December 2010 with the possibility of further appointment subject to satisfactory performance and the availability of funding.
