The University of New England has a long history of teaching languages and their associated literatures and cultures. Teaching in all language disciplines is from ab initio level. The School of Arts wishes to fill a continuing position of Lecturer in French from 1 February 2009. The successful applicant will teach undergraduate units in the contemporary language and in relevant literary/cultural areas, supervise honours and higher degree research students, and contribute actively to the discipline’s research profile.

The successful applicant will have native or near-native competency in French and the ability to work in an English-speaking university. He/She will have a PhD in a recognised area of French Studies. The successful applicant will have a record of research publications or will be able to demonstrate that he/she has articles in preparation. He/She will have the ability to teach French language in a tertiary institution and to participate in the supervision of honours and higher-degree research students. The successful candidate will be able to communicate effectively and work productively as a team member. A specialisation in nineteenth-century French literature is desirable.

Experience in distance education and online teaching and the readiness to seek outside research funding are desirable.

This position would ideally suit someone wishing to further their career, while benefiting from the relaxed environment of the university town of Armidale, New England. Only two hours from the mid-north coast, Armidale is surrounded by world heritage national parks; it is a unique country town that offers all the facilities of a city. Recognised as an important cultural centre, Armidale is well served in art, music, theatre and education. The latter includes public and private schools.

Salary: $68,796 to $81,535 per annum (Lecturer)
plus 17% employer superannuation and optional salary packaging
