The Senior Project Officer (GIS) will work under the general to broad direction of a Research Program Leader/Group Leader and will be required to have a substantial input into the conduct of research at the Institute. The Senior Project Officer (GIS) will be required to manage major components of a range of projects involving spatial analysis and GIS work in the areas of natural resource management, landscape ecology and geographies of social-ecological systems function. Reporting lines may vary depending on the specific project. Applicants must have: demonstrated experience in spatial analysis and related mathematics of algorithm development and spatial statistics, relevant to one or more program areas of landscape futures analysis, scenario modelling or coastal/rural climate change vulnerability assessment with specialist knowledge in 1 or more spatial modelling languages; excellent written and oral communication skills; the ability to exercise independence, initiative and judgement, both individually and within a team; and experience in managing projects and high level analytical and problem solving skills. This is a fixed term position until 30 June 2009, with the possibility of further appointment subject to satisfactory performance and the availability of funding.
