Senior Lecturer/Lecturer in Rural Medicine (Several Positions, 2 Year Fixed-term, Part-time)

The School of Rural Medicine is seeking to appoint three, or possibly five, part-time academic staff members to teach into the Bachelor of Medicine – Joint Medical Program via problem based learning methodology. Classes will be held on either Wednesday or Friday mornings for Year 1 students, or Monday and Tuesday mornings for Year 2 students. These positions represent an exciting and innovative opportunity to assist in the establishment of a national and international reputation in rural medicine through the Joint Medical Program, in partnership with the University of Newcastle, and in setting the foundation for the newly established School of Rural Medicine.

These part-time (0.2) positions, being offered at either the level of Senior Lecturer or Lecturer, are available until 31 December 2010 with the possibility of further appointment subject to satisfactory performance and funding. This year the University of New England has accepted an initial intake of 60 students. Together with the University of Newcastle there is a combined intake of about 200 students. The University of Newcastle is widely recognised for its well established medical curriculum and problem based learning. The new joint project will involve working with rural practitioners to develop innovative models for the delivery of rural medical practice, and provide national and international leadership in the delivery of rural medical, education and research.
