Michael Leslie is an Australia concert pianist living in Munich. He is renown for his flawless piano technique and passion for delivering the spirit and message of the composer in his performances. He is drawn to the problematic and challenging in piano performance. He has performed and recorded much of the monumental piano literature including the Bach Goldberg Variations and The Art of the Fugue; the late Beethoven sonatas and Diabelli Variations, and all of the last Schubert sonatas. As a pianist, Christine Logan has given numerous solo, concerto soloist and chamber music performances throughout Australia, the USA and Canada, as well as broadcasts and appearances for ABC TV and American Public Radio. Her repertoire is extensive and she is particularly interested in the music of the Classic era, Fauré and French repertoire of the early 20th Century. Christine has also given fortepiano recitals and broadcasts and has worked with Malcolm Bilson and attended workshops at the Hague Conservatory. As a duo pianist, she performs, with Julie Adam, the complete two piano works by Frank Martin on a 2005 ABC Classics CD set. Professor Peter Roennfeldt is Director at the Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University. Queensland born, he graduated from both the University of Queensland and the University of Adelaide, and also graduated with a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Cincinnati, where he studied with Bela Siki. After studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Vienna and the Royal College of Music in London, Glenn Riddle returned to Australia where he is now a Lecturer in Music at the Faculty of The Victorian College of the Arts, University of Melbourne. He broadcasts frequently for ABC FM, is closely associated with the music of Percy Grainger, and has recorded numerous CDs for Hal Leonard Publishing as well as for Allans Publishing. He has edited over 90 piano works for the AMEB’s most recent piano publications, which are used by piano students throughout Australia and the South-East Asia region. His students have been prize-winners in all of Australia’s most important competitions, as well as in international competitions. Particular interests include music of the 20th century, with an emphasis on Australian and French repertoire. Jenny McPhan studied piano performance at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music with the eminent Russian teacher Alexander Sverjensky and later with the Russian pianist and teacher Alexander Hmelnitsky. Jenny received further performance experience and tuition from the international concert pianists Lili Kraus, a renowned Mozart specialist, and Detlef Kraus, Brahms exponent and President of the International Brahms Society. An extensive teaching career has included ten years as tutor in performance at The University of New England Music Department from 1984 to 1994, teaching at both undergraduate and Honours performance levels. Students from her private studio have included many successful A. Mus. A. and L. Mus. A. candidates, with a number being recognised at the Distinction level. Jody Heald is a professional accompanist, providing coaching and co-artist support to all types of instrumentalists and vocalists, and has been employed in that capacity in the Music Department of Elizabeth Matriculation College for more than 20 years. During her years in Tasmania, Jody has undertaken further studies with Beryl Sedivka and established herself as a successful teacher, solo performer, accompanist, and chamber player. Her frequent public performances include ABC broadcasts and University Series concerts. She was for a number of years the pianist for the Hobart-based Piano Trio “Trio Notturno”. Jody gives master classes and lecture-demonstrations regularly both in Tasmania and elsewhere in Australia. Her work embraces performance practice in all instrumental areas and specific piano teaching repertoire and pedagogy. She is a specialist consultant to the Australian Music Examinations Board Federal Office on piano and pedagogy syllabus matters, chairman of the AMEB Tasmanian State Committee and a director on the AMEB Ltd. Professor Jennie Shaw joined the University of New England in July 2008 as Head of the School of Arts. Before coming to UNE, Jennie was Associate Dean and Head of School at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, University of Sydney. She is currently a Director of the New England Conservatorium of Music (NECOM) and also serves as one of six international Trustees of the Australian Music Foundation, a philanthropic organisation based in London that promotes and funds postgraduate study for outstanding Australian musicians in Europe. With a background in musicology and performance (piano and oboe), she completed undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in music and law at the University of Sydney and the State University of New York, Stony Brook. She has taught at Stony Brook, Flinders University, University of Melbourne and the University of Sydney and has given seminars and guest lectures in Australia, Europe, New Zealand and North America. Fiona Hill is currently Composer in Residence and Accompanist at Trinity Grammar School, Sydney. Born in Melbourne she studied composition with Graeme Koehne at Adelaide University where she graduated with first class honours in composition. At Adelaide University she also studied piano with Lucinda Collins and received a degree in piano performance. She received a Masters in screen composition from the Australian Film Television and Radio School Sydney and is currently undertaking a PhD in composition at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. As a composer, pianist and improviser, Fiona has worked on numerous projects that include film, dance, theatre, classical and electroacoustic concert music. Ghillian Sullivan has had an extensive career in over 40 major soprano roles, in leading Opera Houses of the world, including Australian Opera. Recognized as an exceptional actress and vocal technician, she now teaches vocal technique and stagecraft, and directs operas for Australian Universities, and her own company, Newcastle Festival Opera.
