Contents
Introduction
The Postgraduate Diploma in Psychology (PGDipPsych) is a new 4th year degree in Psychology that provides you with an accredited 4th year.
To be employed as a registered Psychologist in Australia you are required to have completed a four year university degree with a sequence of units that has been accredited by the Australian Psychological Society. The new Post Graduate Diploma allows you to achieve the fourth year of this sequence without the stringent entry requirements for Honours in Psychology.
The Postgraduate Diploma focuses on coursework and skills training that will prepare you for a career as a Psychologist. It includes study of professional skills and ethics, advanced reading topics, seminars on history and theory, and a group supervised research project. You still require a further two years of supervised employment in psychological services before you can register as a professional Psychologist.

Who should do it?
If you want to establish a career as a professional Psychologist you need your fourth year of university study. If you want to work in Psychology (and you are not interested in higher degree study) the Postgraduate Diploma is for you. The Postgraduate Diploma in Psychology provides an avenue to registration and professional employment that does not require the research emphasis associated with Honours in Psychology. The PGDP requires a Credit average in your undergraduate Psychology units whereas Honours in Psychology requires close to a Distinction average. In addition, you do not need the high level statistical skills required for Honours.
