Designed to assist UNE staff in understanding what Risk Management at UNE is. This course will outline the process of identify and managing risk, in addition, the course also includes the use of UNE’s Risk Management database.
First Aid Certification

Duration: 1 Day
Description
Essential skills required to administer first aid to a victim of injury or illness until the arrival of professional medical help. This course is approved by WorkCover NSW. This course in mandatory for all UNE staff members who perform the role of First Aid Officer or First Aider. Variable delivery: Participants must complete the workbook prior to attending the 1 day practical session.
Content
DRABC procedure, First Aid Principles, Responding to emergencies, Assessment for unconsciousness, Moving a casualty, Expired Air Resuscitation, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, Treatment of illness, Cardiac emergencies, Bleeding and wounds, Dressings and bandages, Exposure to heat and cold, Burns and scalds, Poisoning, Reporting of accidents, Spinal injuries, Bites and Stings.
Variable delivery
Participants must complete the workbook prior to attending the 1 day practical session.
OHS Consultation (WorkCover accredited)

Description
This course is MANDATORY for all OHS Committee members and OHS representatives. The requirements for this course are set out in the OHS Regulation 2001 and the course is supported by OHS Consultation Code of Practice.

OHS for Managers and Supervisors

Duration: Online component plus 1 Day face-to-face
Description
This course combines online study and a face-to-face practical session. The online notes have been developed by WorkCover NSW to provide generic OHS training for supervisors and managers. The online component must be completed prior to attending the 1 day session.
Requirements
The OHS Act 2000 and OHS Regulation 2001 require employers to provide appropriate training and instruction as necessary to fulfil OHS obligations. In addition, the Regulation states that these obligations include supervising staff and undertaking risk management to ensure the health & safety and welfare of employees and others at the workplace.
Content
Practical elements include: legislative requirements, responsibilities, hazards, risks, inspections, risk assessment, risk control, training requirements, case studies, and UNE documentation.
Occupational Health and Safety for UNE Employees
Dates: commence anytime (online course)
Duration: self-paced
Description
This course is designed for all staff and should be reviewed every 3-5 years. It covers the key responsibilities and accountabilities required of staff. All new staff should access this course. New staff must be given a full induction into the general risks of the University as a workplace, and the particular hazards of their own work area. This short course covers the general risks of University work and concludes with a multiple choice quiz.
Employees should be able to complete this course at their own pace in approximately one hour.
OHS for UNE Employees is offered free online or by workshop to UNE staff members.Please register by sending a registration form to Organisational Development, fax 2462 or by internal mail. Please indicate your preference for the online or workshop component. NOTE: In addition to this course, supervisors must ensure that new staff receive a workplace-specific OHS induction.
