Selecting the Best

recruiting

The Selecting the Best program is designed to:

  • Inform staff about UNE's recruitment and selection policy and procedures
  • Develop the relevant skills for participants to be able to apply the University's recruitment and selection policies.
  • Increase the confidence of participants so that they will apply the skills and knowledge throughout the selection process and particularly at interview.

More specifically, at the end of the course including the interview workshop participants will be able to:

  • Develop cohesive and relevant selection criteria to form the basis of an effective selection process.
  • Short-list applicants by matching their skills, experience, knowledge and abilities against the selection criteria.
  • Develop an interview structure to ensure consistent and legally defensible interviews.
  • Apply effective interview techniques using questioning techniques designed to gather relevant information from applicants with regard to the selection criteria.
  • Handle committee management issues successfully.
  • Contribute to an effective decision making process to choose the best qualified applicant for a position according to the selection criteria.
  • Understand how to give appropriate feedback.

Selecting the Best is offered as a two-day workshop. Cost $nil.

As there is a significant time commitment involved (a one-day theory component, plus a one-day interview skills practice workshop), please discuss it with your Director or Head of School before registering via Web Kiosk. Staff completing this course are then placed on UNE's Selecting the Best Register. For further information contact ODU or Geoff Smith, x3614.
