A leading British educator will give a public lecture at the University
of New England next week while spending a fortnight in the University's
School of Education as a Visiting Fellow.
Cedric Cullingford, the author of 25 books on child development
and school education, is Professor of Education and Head of Research
at Huddersfield University in England. His main research interest
is the effect of educational policy on the formation of children's
character and attitudes. His lecture will be titled "What can
Australian educators learn from recent developments in British education?"
In West Yorkshire, Professor Cullingford is Chair of the Kirklees
Early Years Development and Childcare Partnership, which works to
raise the status of young children throughout the Kirklees region,
and to ensure that their needs are met.
The public lecture, at 5 pm on Wednesday 17 March, will be in Lecture
Theatre 111 in UNE's Education Building. It will be followed by
wine and cheese.

The Australian College of Educators and the Australian Council
for Educational Leaders, who have organised the lecture, are inviting
members of the audience to join Professor Cullingford for dinner
at Restaurant Q, Girraween, at 7 pm that evening (at each person's

While visiting UNE (from 16 March to 1 April) Professor Cullingford
will present lectures, seminars and information sessions for local
school teachers as well as for UNE staff and students, and work
with UNE's Dr Catherine Scott on two books they are jointly preparing
for publication.
