A Senior Lecturer in Law at the University of New England, Mr Bryan
Pape, has been appointed Acting Director of UNE's Australian Centre
for Agriculture and Law (AgLaw Centre).
Professor Roley Piggott, Chairman of the AgLaw Centre's Steering
Committee, announced Mr Pape's appointment today. Professor Piggott
said he expected that a full-time Director would be appointed within
the next 12 months.
The AgLaw Centre, an interdisciplinary joint venture between UNE's
Faculty of The Sciences, Faculty of Economics, Business and Law,
and School of Law, was established last year. It is the first centre
of its kind in Australia
Mr Pape's appointment follows the resignation of the AgLaw Centre's
founding Director, Dr Sandra Welsman, who has moved to Canberra.
“The University was extremely fortunate in having Dr Welsman
play such a vital role in establishing the Centre,” Professor
Piggott said.

He said the Centre would soon be releasing a series of papers dealing
with topics such as agricultural supply chains, agriculture and
biotechnology, farming and environmental rules, and rural industry
regulation.
"The Centre is planning to hold a conference on Agricultural
Law this year as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of the
University,” Professor Piggott said. “It will be able
to draw on Mr Pape’s experience in attending the American
Agricultural Law Association’s Annual Conference held in San
Antonio, Texas, last October.”
