News Release:

UNE residences popular, but places still exist

Date 9/1/04 No 004/04

The Chair of the University of New England's residences, Dr Alan McKenzie, is urging prospective students not to delay their applications for college accommodation at UNE.

"Demand has been high," Dr McKenzie said, "but there are still places left. I would advise anyone interested to apply now, as most of the remaining places will be filled quite quickly. This applies to all seven of the University's residential colleges, as well as to Wright Village (the University Flats)."

Each of the seven colleges accommodates between 200 and 300 students. Dr McKenzie said that this year, as in previous years, the majority of first-year on-campus students are choosing to live in college. "This is one of the things that make UNE college life a unique experience," he said, "but it also means that students should ensure a place as early as possible."

While students living in Wright Village cater for themselves, the colleges provide full catering (although St Albert's College also offers self-catered accommodation).

Each of the eight residences has its own distinct character and heritage, but they all offer organised social and cultural activities as well as academic and pastoral support.
