If you remember when Menzies was Prime Minister, Cat eyeglasses
were all the trend and when Bandstand and Pick a Box were the shows
to watch then we need you.
The University of New England this year celebrates 50 years as
an autonomous organisation. Throughout the year Marketing and Public
Affairs will be holding events to coincide with the celebration.
We are asking everyone in the UNE community to assist with our appeal.
We need paraphernalia, artefacts and nostalgic items from the 1950s.
This includes fashion and accessories, sporting goods and uniforms,
books, magazines, posters, appliances and music records.
If you have furniture, photos, newspapers, food packets and cans,
stamps, beer and soft drink bottles, crockery, music boxes, vases,
lamps, coins, toys, comics, prints, original colour televisions,
gardening equipment, drive-in or movie stubs, the old Australian
flag (1954 was the last year it was used) or postcards of these
items will come in handy.

If, however, you have something that you feel would assist us please
don’t feel limited to our list.
Most importantly, we are appealing to anyone who may have testamurs
from UNE’s first graduation, photos, uniforms or any other
memorabilia that relates to UNE in 1954.
So pull out those poodle skirts and bobby socks, bring back Doris
Day’s secret Love and unpack your copies of Women’s
Weekly and TV Week to assist Marketing and Public Affairs in celebrating
your UNE.
These things will only be used for display and returned to you
in the same condition. If you have any memorabilia, junk or paraphernalia
that reminds you of the 1950s and in particular UNE in 1954 that
you are willing to lend to Marketing and Public Affairs please phone
Lexie McGourty on
ext 6773 2736.
