Tamworth Chamber of Commerce’s Quality Business Awards is
a major annual event in Tamworth. Now, to the delight of the University
of New England, its UNE Tamworth Centre is on its way to a hat trick
of wins in the Education Employment and Training Category.
Following on from the UNE Tamworth Centre’s win last year,
on Friday November 7 2003 it was recognised for the high quality
of its service to students in the Tamworth area once again.
For the past 48 years UNE has had an office in Tamworth that has
provided advice and assistance to prospective students as well as
support for current students.
The centre is fitted out with state-of-the-art facilities that
provide UNE students with resources to conduct research on the Web
and complete assignment work in the computer labs, as well as the
ability to form study/support groups and study in quiet areas.

The Centre is coordinated by Margaret Keane and she has been congratulated
by UNE's Access Centres Operations Manager, Frances Kelly, who said:
“Margaret’s dedication and commitment to both the Centre
and the students is to be acknowledged and applauded.” Frances
Kelly also congratulated the campus-based staff, who continued to
support the students through workshops and tutorials, for their
contribution to the award-winning Centre. “We would not be
so successful if we didn’t have the continued support of these
people,” she said.
Future plans for the Centre include the completion of the basement
floor of Peel House. Work is to begin in the next 4-6 weeks and
includes another lecture room that seats 100, a second teaching
room, and a flexible study room for UNE students. Once the work
is completed, UNE will be providing two floors of facilities for
both UNE students and the wider Tamworth community.
