Richard Torbay, the NSW Member for Northern Tablelands, will host
the launch of the University of New England’s Alumni Network
(Sydney) during a cocktail reception at Parliament House tomorrow
evening [Wednesday 3 December].
Dr Andrew Refshauge, Deputy Premier and Minister for Education
and Training, will address the gathering. The network aims to foster
and maintain ties between the University and its past and present
students.
The University will be represented by Mr Torbay, who is a member
of UNE’s Council, Dr Peter Hemphill, a founding academic of
UNE’s Law program, and Mrs Edwina Ridgway, Head of UNE's Duval
College. Around 85 past and present students, many of whom have
connections to UNE’s School of Law or Duval College, have
been invited to the launch.
UNE’s Law Students' Society (LSS) is seeking articles for
its Careers in Law Guide, a major initiative due for release in
June 2004.

Tomorrow’s launch will provide a forum in which Law graduates
will be encouraged to submit articles about their experiences of
UNE to the Guide. By compiling a series of first-person perspectives
written by UNE Law graduates and staff, the LSS intends to tell
potential students that "if these people have succeeded at
UNE, you can too".
UNE Graduates who lived in Duval College during their time at University
will be encouraged by Mrs Ridgway to continue to take an active
role in College activities.
The launch will take place in the Jubilee Room at Parliament House,
Sydney, between 6 pm and 8 pm.
