The Charles Ede Essay Prize
The Charles Ede Essay Prize was established in 1999 by James Ede in memory of his father. Charles Ede (1921–2002) was the founder of the Folio Society in 1947, publishing handcrafted, limited edition books. In 1971 he established Charles Ede Limited, a leading London based firm dealing in Classical and pre-Classical Antiquities from Greece, Egypt, Italy, Cyprus and the Near East.
Value of the Prize
The Prize is $500, including a book to the value of $100.
Eligibility
The Prize is open to any student enrolled in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at the University of New England, including post-graduates.
Topic/Focus
The essay must have as its research focus one or more objects in the UNE Museum of Antiquities. No specific topic is provided, but the essay may have been submitted as part of a course in an academic unit within the Faculty.

2000–3000 words
Presentation Requirements
- A digital copy of the essay must be submitted in word processed form, in accordance with accepted academic principles governing documentation of sources.
- A 250 word précis is also required at the time of submission.
- Photographs, diagrams and other appropriate visual material are acceptable inclusions in your essay. All visual material must comply with copyright laws and regulations. Any permissions required to use such material is the responsibility of the entrant.
Submission Deadline
The submission deadline is 4pm on the first Friday in November. Essays must be submitted by email to the Head of the School of Humanities at headshum@une.edu.au
Required Submission Information
The subject box of the email submission must have the words Charles Ede Essay Prize, followed by the entrant's full name.
The submitted essay must include a cover sheet listing:
- The entrant's name.
- The course in which the entrant is enrolled.
- The entrant's student number.
- The entrant's email address.
- The entrant's postal address.
- The entrant's phone number.
- The essay title.
Publishing Rights
The School of Humanities reserves the right to publish or make use of entrant submissions in ways that are appropriate to the role of the School and the Museum of Antiquities.

Adjudication
The Museum of Antiquities Management Team is responsible for the appointment of appropriate adjudicators. The decision of the adjudicators is final.
Notification of Results
The winner of the Charles Ede Essay Prize will be notified by mid December.
