Jim has a background in newspaper journalism, including sub-editing positions on The Sydney Morning Herald and The Times (London). While in London he completed a PhD (a study of "talking" birds) at the University of London. Joining the UNE community initially as an Honorary Research Associate, he took up his present position at the beginning of 2001.
At work he enjoys both the process of writing and the daily contact with a range of fascinating people. Armidale has nourished the development of his leisure interests: particularly Tai Chi and choral singing.
He has recently become a step-grandfather.
