Professor Wang Gungwu recently delivered a keynote paper on Ethnic Chinese in Malaysia and Singapore entitled Local and National: a dialogue between tradition and modernity at the International Conference on Ethnic Chinese in Singapore and Malaysia: a dialogue between tradition and modernity held in Singapore in June, 2001.
