BOUNDARIES AND SHIFTING SOVEREIGNTIES: MIGRATION, SECURITY ISSUES AND REGIONAL COOPERATION

We invite members to submit panel and paper proposals on a range of issues including migration, Islam and the state, terrorism, human rights, human trafficking, bilateral/regional cooperation etc. 

Requests to present a paper at the colloquium should reach the convenors no later than 10 October 2006. Acceptance of papers for oral presentation will be made by the Convenors and depend on relevance to the focus of the colloquium and availability of program slots.

This year there will be a scheduled postgraduate workshop on the afternoon of 1 December where students will be able to present short talks on their research relating to Malaysia & Singapore and receive feedback from peers and other academics. Postgraduates who present a paper at the Postgraduate Workshop on aspects of their research/thesis will be assigned a mentor who will provide detailed feedback to them.

We are pleased to inform you that Amarjit has donated her Jackson lecture honorarium to cover the registration costs for postgraduate researchers. Waiving of registration for postgraduates will be on a competitive basis. Students should make an application, preferably be email to Prof. Ian Metcalfe, Email: imetcal2@une.edu.au Please include an email from your supervisor, an abstract of no more than 300 words and a biography of no more than 100 words in your application which should be received no later than 10 October 2006. Students who present a paper at the colloquium or make a presentation at the postgraduate workshop will be given priority for support.

ACCOMMODATION

We recommend that participants stay at the Cameron Lodge Motor Inn, Cnr Barney & Dangar Sts Armidale NSW 2350, close to the CBD. Telephone: (02) 6772 2351 Facsimile: (02) 6772 5600.  Participants should make their own bookings and payments directly with the Motel. We have negotiated a special rate of $70 (Bed & Breakfast per person) for participants with the Cameron Lodge so please mention the Colloquium when booking. There are also many other motels in Armidale available.

Budget Accommodation

Budget accommodation is available at Mary White College on the UNE campus as follows:

Rate : $49/- per night B & B (standard single rooms with shareed bathroom down the corridor)

A limited number of rooms in the all female block are available. Payment details need to be received at the time of booking, along with any special needs.

Dinner : casual rate $10/- per day
